RACADM provides similar functionality to the iDRAC\/DRAC Graphical User Interface (GUI). The Dell Chassis Management Controller (CMC) can also be managed remotely with RACADM.<\/p>\n<p>RACADM commands can be run remotely from a management station and\/or locally on the managed system.<\/p>\n<p>RACADM commands allow you to view managed system information, perform power operations on the managed system, perform firmware updates, configure settings\u00a0and more. Because RACADM is run from a command line interface (CLI), system administrators can create scripts that control and update Dell systems in a one-to-many fashion. See the links to the RACADM documentation at the end of this article for a complete listing of features for your product version.<\/p>\n<h1>Terminology<\/h1>\n<div>\n<p><b>Managed System<\/b>\u00a0&#8211; The Dell PowerEdge Server containing the iDRAC or DRAC, or the Dell Blade Chassis containing the Chassis Management Controller (CMC).<\/p>\n<p><b>Management Station<\/b>\u00a0&#8211; A computer used for accessing the iDRAC, DRAC, or CMC remotely.<\/p>\n<p><b>iDRAC<\/b>\u00a0&#8211; Integrated Dell Remote Access Controller. Available on newer and current generations of Dell PowerEdge Servers (11G and 12G).<\/p>\n<p><b>DRAC<\/b>\u00a0&#8211; Dell Remote Access Controller. Available on older generations of Dell PowerEdge Servers.<\/p>\n<h1><b>The Different RACADM Utilities<\/b><\/h1>\n<\/div>\n<p>The following RACADM utilities are available:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><b>Remote RACADM<\/b> &#8211; utility is installed on a management station.<\/li>\n<li><b>Local RACADM<\/b> &#8211; utility is installed on the managed system.<\/li>\n<li><b>SSH\/Telnet\/Serial RACADM<\/b> (also known as <b>Firmware RACADM<\/b>) &#8211; utility is built into the iDRAC, DRAC, and CMC firmware.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><b>NOTES: <\/b>Local RACADM is not required if you will be managing your server from a management station via Remote RACADM. Remote RACADM and Local RACADM cannot be installed at the same time on the same system.<\/p>\n<h1><b>Locating and Installing RACADM Utilities<\/b><\/h1>\n<h2><b>Remote RACADM<\/b><\/h2>\n<p>Remote RACADM\u00a0supports executing RACADM commands from a remote management station such as a laptop or desktop computer. It is available on the <i>Dell OpenManage Systems Management Tools and Documentation DVD<\/i> or at\u00a0<strong><a href=\"http:\/\/support.dell.com\/\" target=\"_blank\">support.dell.com<\/a>.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>To download Remote RACADM:<\/p>\n<ol>\n<li>Go to <strong><a href=\"http:\/\/support.dell.com\/\" target=\"_blank\">http:\/\/support.dell.com<\/a><\/strong><\/li>\n<li>If prompted, select <b>Start Here<\/b> under Small Businesses or Enterprise IT.<\/li>\n<li>Enter the <b>Service Tag<\/b> of the <em>managed<\/em> system and <b>Submit<\/b>, or use one of the <b>Choose<\/b> options to locate your managed system model.<\/li>\n<li>Select <b>Drivers and Downloads<\/b> &gt; select the <b>Operating System of your <em>Management Station <\/em><\/b>from the drop-down menu. <strong>Note: <\/strong>The drop-down menu only contains supported server operating systems. Depending on the version downloaded, the file will be named DRAC.msi, RACTools.msi, or\u00a0RACTools64Bit.msi.<\/p>\n<p>-OR-<\/p>\n<p>If using the DVD, run &lt;path&gt;\\SYSMGMT\\ManagementStation\\windows\\DRAC\\&lt;.msi file name&gt;<\/p>\n<p>Accept the license agreement &gt; <b>Next <\/b>&gt; Select the folder to install to &gt; <b>Next &gt; Install<\/b> &gt;<b> Finish<\/b>.<\/p>\n<p>Open an administrative command prompt, type <b>racadm<\/b> and press <b>Enter<\/b>. If you get the RACADM help instructions it is installed correctly.<\/p>\n<h3><b>Remote RACADM Installation &#8211; Linux Management Station<\/b><\/h3>\n<p>If downloaded, extract the downloaded file and cd to the directory containing the rpm files:<\/p>\n<p>&lt;path&gt;\/linux\/rac\/&lt;linux distribution name&gt;\/&lt;i386 or x86_64&gt;<\/p>\n<p>-OR-<\/p>\n<p>If using the DVD,\u00a0 cd to the directory containing the rpm files:<\/p>\n<p>&lt;path&gt;\/SYSMGMT\/ManagementStation\/linux\/rac\/&lt;linux_distribution_name&gt;\/&lt;i386 or x86_64&gt;<\/p>\n<p>From the i386 or x86_64 directory, run:<\/p>\n<p>rpm -ivh *.rpm<\/p>\n<p>Open a shell prompt with root privileges, type <b>racadm<\/b> and press <b>Enter<\/b>. If you get the RACADM help instructions it is installed correctly.\u00a0<b>\u00a0<\/b><\/p>\n<p><b>NOTE:<\/b> The racadm executable is located under \/opt\/dell\/srvadmin\/sbin. You may need to log out and log back in to reset the PATH environment variable to include this location.<\/p>\n<h2><b>Local RACADM<\/b><\/h2>\n<p>Local RACADM\u00a0supports executing RACADM commands from the managed system\u2019s operating system. If you get the RACADM help instructions it is installed correctly.<\/p>\n<h3><b>Local RACADM Installation &#8211; Linux Managed System<\/b><\/h3>\n<p>If downloaded, extract the downloaded file and run:<\/p>\n<p>&lt;path&gt;\/linux\/supportscripts\/srvadmin-install.sh<\/p>\n<p>-OR-<\/p>\n<p>If using the DVD, run:<\/p>\n<p>&lt;path&gt;\/SYSMGMT\/srvadmin\/linux\/supportscripts\/srvadmin-install.sh<\/p>\n<p>Accept the license agreement and, at a minimum, select option <b>5 &#8211; Remote Access Core Component <\/b>from the menu.<\/p>\n<p>Open a shell prompt with root privileges, type <b>racadm<\/b> and press <b>Enter<\/b>. If you get the RACADM help instructions it is installed correctly.<\/p>\n<p><b>NOTE:<\/b> The racadm executable is located under \/opt\/dell\/srvadmin\/sbin. See your user&#8217;s guide for connecting via these methods.<\/p>\n<p>Once connected via SSH, Telnet or Serial, type racadm help for the online help instructions.<\/p>\n<p><b>NOTE: <\/b>On some interfaces if you type <b>racadm<\/b> and press <b>Enter, <\/b>you will be taken to a racadm&gt;&gt; prompt. Commands can then be entered from this prompt without the &#8220;racadm&#8221; prefix. To exit the prompt, type quit or use Ctrl+C.<\/p>\n<div>\n<h1><b>Syntax Usage<\/b><\/h1>\n<p>The following shows an example of a simple RACADM subcommand, getsysinfo, used with each RACADM utility. See the end of this article\u00a0for links to documentation containing the full list of RACADM commands.<\/p>\n<h2><b>Remote RACADM<\/b><\/h2>\n<p>Remote RACADM commands must include the ip address or hostname of the idrac, and the idrac username and password.<\/p>\n<p>racadm -r &lt;ip address or hostname&gt; -u &lt;username&gt; -p &lt;password&gt; &lt;subcommand&gt;<\/p>\n<p>racadm -r 10.1.1.1 -u root -p calvin getsysinfo<\/p>\n<p><b>NOTE:<\/b> Remote racadm uses the web server SSL certificate of the iDRAC to authenticate the session. You will receive a warning message if certificates have not been configured or if the certificate is invalid. However, the command will execute normally following the message. If you wish to halt the command on certificate errors, use the -S option in the command.
